BOG - Ashram Weekend
As some of you may have already heard, we will be having a gathering over Labour Weekend at Waiwera.
We'll be starting Friday evening (around 8ish) and packing out again on Monday. The main idea of the weekend is to do some serious boardgaming - serious is not exactly the right word ... it should be alot of fun!. But there's also the opportunity for walks on the beach, quiet mediatation, sitting in hotpools etc.
We'll be staying at the Waiwera Ashram - 7 Waiwera Place . It's easy to find... there are only 3 roads in Waiwera anyway so its hard to get lost! Basically the Ashram is directly behind the pools complex.
Accommodation:
The Ashram is pretty much a large room with a few
bedrooms attached. There will be around 8-10 beds
available as well as lots of floor space for those
who don't get there first. I would reccommend
bringing sleeping bags or duvets etc.
The hotwater on the shower is powered by a coin fed meter.... so bring along some 50c pieces.
There is a cost of $10 per person per night if you stay overnight. If you visit but don't stay overnight there is no specific cost but a donation to the Ashram society would be appreciated.
The Ashram has its own mineral hotpool - about the size of a large spabath but without the bubbles.
Food/eating:
Apart form the takeaways bar at the pools there
aren't alot of food options in Waiwera. Orewa is
about 10 minutes by car. So I would reccomend
bringing your own food. There is no problem with
bringing alcohol as long as you are sensible about it
and take most of the detritus home with you.
There are kitchen facilities (in fact they're just been done up), including a microwave and stove/oven. However it is a small kitchen, so remember you've got to share it with others (& clean up after yourself). Likewise the fridge is likely to be rather full.
I intend to take along the makings of pizza... pita bread for bases, sauce, cheese, salami etc. I'll probably leave these around for general feasting- but again some contribution to the cost wouldn't go amiss.
And don't forget to bring those essential junk foods for munching and drinking while playing board games.
